Wieninger is Vienna’s flagship estate, producing benchmark Gemischter Satz blends and biodynamic wines of freshness and authenticity.
Founded and led by Fritz Wieninger, Wieninger has been instrumental in revitalizing the capital’s winemaking tradition. Vienna is the only world capital with a significant winegrowing area within its city limits, and Wieninger has elevated its profile on the international stage.
The Wieninger family cultivates their vineyards in the Nussberg, in the 19th district, and the Bisamberg, in the 21st district of Vienna, which is also where the Wieninger Winery is located. A wide range of wines results from these two areas, whose climates differ due to the separation created by the Danube River.
The estate is particularly celebrated for Wiener Gemischter Satz, a traditional field blend of multiple white varieties planted and harvested together. This style has been granted DAC (appellation) status, largely thanks to Wieninger’s advocacy and quality. Other highlights include Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, and Pinot Noir, all crafted with precision and balance.
Wieninger farms biodynamically, reflecting a deep respect for the land and its cultural heritage. The wines consistently show freshness, minerality, and food-friendliness, embodying Vienna’s unique position between Alpine and Pannonian influences.
