2020 Thibault Liger-Belair, Richebourg Grand Cru, France

The crown jewel of the offering. Planted between 1931 and 1936, this historic parcel lies just north of Romanée-Conti in the heart of Richebourg. During our tasting, Thibault described it less as a powerful wine than as haute couture—a Grand Cru whose immense concentration is carried with extraordinary elegance. Layers of violets, rose petals, wild berries, spice, and profound mineral depth unfold over an endlessly persistent finish. A wine that rewards patience and stands among the defining bottles of modern Burgundy.

“Simply spectacular. Profuse aromas of blackberry and plum, scented with rose petals, peonies, liquorice, spice and salty mineral notes. The texture is opulently rich on the initial attack, but has a formidable amount of tannin and structure behind it. Should age forever. This half-hectare parcel was planted between 1931-1934. It is located on the southern portion of Les Richebourgs just above DRC. Liger Belair ferments one-third of the fruit as whole clusters with a very gentle extraction, using limited punch-downs and a three week cuvaison.”
