Porseleinberg is a cult Swartland Syrah, powerful and age-worthy with pure terroir expression.
Porseleinberg is one of South Africa’s most exciting modern wine projects, created by Marc Kent of Boekenhoutskloof and led by winemaker Callie Louw. It is a single-site vineyard in the Swartland, focused entirely on Syrah.
The wine, made in tiny quantities, is intensely structured and age-worthy, with flavors of dark fruit, olive, pepper, and herbs. Whole-bunch fermentation and minimal intervention emphasize purity and terroir. The label itself is printed on porcelain paper, underscoring its artisanal ethos.
The Swartland’s shale and decomposed granite soils, combined with dry-farming, yield wines of concentration and character. Porseleinberg is considered one of South Africa’s greatest reds.
