About This Producer
In short: MAN Family Wines unites approachable classics with celebrated estates like Lievland, Essay, Kara Tara, and the flagship Stark-Condé, offering a complete view of South Africa’s terroir and excellence.
Founded in 2001 by José Conde and brothers Philip and Tyrrel Myburgh, MAN Family Wines has evolved into a leading South African wine group, balancing accessibility with ambition. The original MAN range—named after the founders’ wives, Marie, Anette, and Nicky—remains the foundation, producing sustainably farmed Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinotage, and Cabernet Sauvignon that overdeliver on quality and value.
The portfolio extends well beyond MAN. Lievland revives a historic Stellenbosch estate with terroir-driven, classically styled wines. Essay highlights the Cape’s affinity for Rhône-inspired blends in a modern, fruit-forward style. Kara Tara, meanwhile, is dedicated to small-batch Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from cool-climate sites, showcasing finesse and restraint. At the pinnacle is Stark-Condé, the family’s crown jewel in Stellenbosch’s Jonkershoek Valley, renowned for its ageworthy Cabernet Sauvignon, elegant Syrah, and white blend that rank among South Africa’s finest and most restrained.
Together, these estates express the depth and diversity of the Cape’s vineyards—from everyday bottles to collector-worthy icons—while staying true to the group’s ethos of value, sustainability, and a strong sense of place.
