About This Producer

France – Burgundy (Nuits-Saint-Georges, Côte de Nuits)

In short: Domaine Henri Gouges is the reference point for structured, long-lived Pinot Noirs from Nuits-Saint-Georges.

Founded in the early 20th century, Domaine Henri Gouges is synonymous with Nuits-Saint-Georges, producing some of the appellation’s most structured and age-worthy Pinot Noirs. The family played a key role in defining Burgundy’s appellation system, ensuring recognition for its distinctive terroirs.

The domaine’s 14.5 hectares include top Premier Cru vineyards such as Les Saint-Georges, Les Vaucrains, and Les Pruliers. The wines are noted for their depth, muscular tannins, and ability to evolve for decades. In addition to Pinot Noir, a rare white Pinot Gouges (a natural mutation of Pinot Noir discovered in the family’s vineyards) is also produced.

Nuits-Saint-Georges, with its mix of clay and limestone soils, yields wines that are darker, firmer, and more powerful than those from neighboring Vosne-Romanée. Henri Gouges stands as a benchmark for this character.
