In short: Boekenhoutskloof unites heritage and innovation, producing iconic South African wines under Marc Kent’s visionary leadership.
Established in 1776, Boekenhoutskloof is one of South Africa’s most historic estates. In the modern era, it has been shaped by the vision of winemaker and owner Marc Kent, whose leadership has elevated the estate into a benchmark for Cape wine. The name translates to “ravine of the Boekenhout,” a native beech tree, tying the property to its origins in Franschhoek.
Boekenhoutskloof’s portfolio is anchored by its flagship Syrah, regarded as one of South Africa’s greatest reds. Old-vine Semillon from Franschhoek is another highlight, while “The Chocolate Block,” a Rhône-inspired blend, has become an international ambassador. Kent and his team balance heritage with innovation, ensuring wines that are powerful, elegant, and deeply expressive of site.
Franschhoek’s granite and sandstone soils, coupled with mountain breezes, provide conditions for wines of both structure and finesse. Under Kent’s stewardship, Boekenhoutskloof stands as a model of South African excellence.
