There are few domaines in Chablis that feel as genuinely farmer-first as Domaine Laurent Tribut. This tiny operation oversees just a handful of hectares, with holdings in Chablis and the Premier Crus Montmains, Beauroy, and Côte de Léchet. The scale matters: these are not wines conceived in the cellar but grown parcel by parcel by the family. Winemaking follows the same understated philosophy to reveal the site, with traditional élevage in neutral oak designed to give texture, finishing in stainless steel, all in the tiny cellar under the family home.

The Tribut story also has deep roots in one of Chablis's great winegrowing families. Laurent married Marie-Clotilde Dauvissat, sister of Vincent Dauvissat, and began his domaine with some of the vineyards acquired by the Dauvissat family. Today, the family story continues, with their daughter Solange at the helm of the winemaking process. With their commitment to traditional Chablis, Tribut has long since established an identity of its own: quiet, uncompromising, and profoundly tied to its few hectares of vines.

The family’s vineyards sit on the Kimmeridgian limestone and marl that form the geological foundation of Chablis, an ancient seabed whose layers still contain fossilized marine organisms. It is this extraordinary geology, combined with Chablis's cool northern climate, that gives Chardonnay here its characteristic combination of acidity, salinity, and mineral tension. Tribut's restrained cellar approach leaves that character particularly exposed.

This offer provides a rare chance to see that philosophy through both vintage and site. The two vintages also provide an intriguing contrast, with the more structured 2020 alongside the generous yet fresh 2023.

At the villages level, Chablis are the purest introduction to the domaine: restrained, textured, and built around freshness.

Beauroy can be explored in both vintages as well. Located on the left bank of the Serein, its south- and southeast-facing slopes rise above the villages of Poinchy and Beine. It generally gives a somewhat broader, more immediately expressive interpretation of Tribut's classical style.

The 2023 Côte de Léchet turns the dial in another direction. This dramatically steep Premier Cru rises above Milly on slopes result in wines that are particularly lively and mineral-driven, a natural fit for Tribut's precise, hands-off sensibility.

There simply isn't much Tribut to go around. That scarcity isn't manufactured; it is the natural consequence of a family farming a handful of exceptional Chablis vineyards and making the wines in much the same spirit they always have.
