Few houses in Champagne speak so clearly to the purity of Chardonnay as Champagne Delamotte. Founded in 1760 and based in the Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Delamotte stands among the region’s historic maisons, with a singular focus on the great terroirs of the Côte des Blancs. As the sister house to the legendary Salon, it shares not only vineyards and philosophy, but an unwavering commitment to Chardonnay as the ultimate conduit of place.
This offering brings together a rare look at Delamotte’s Blanc de Blancs across multiple expressions — from the immediacy of the non-vintage to the depth and evolution of mature vintages, culminating in a late-disgorged 2007 that captures the house at its most profound.
A Terroir of Grand Cru Precision: All wines in this collection are sourced exclusively from Grand Cru vineyards across the Côte des Blancs — Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize, Oger, Cramant, Chouilly, and Oiry. These chalk-rich soils, coupled with gentle slopes and a cool, northerly climate, yield Chardonnays of tension, salinity, and remarkable longevity.
Each village contributes to the house style: Le Mesnil-sur-Oger defines the core — linear, saline, and precise. Avize brings structure and balance. Oger offers breadth and fruit expression. Cramant adds a smoky mineral nuance. Chouilly lends length, while Oiry softens the edges with subtle roundness. Across vintages and cuvées, this Grand Cru mosaic remains the constant thread.
A Philosophy of Restraint and Time: Winemaking at Delamotte is intentionally transparent. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel to preserve purity, with no overt influence of oak. Given the naturally austere profile of Chardonnay grown on chalk, the wines are aged extensively on their lees, allowing texture and complexity to emerge while maintaining clarity and precision.
